Free Counting & Shapes Games for Preschoolers (Ages 3-5)

Three to five is the magic window for "the basics" — counting to 10, naming shapes, naming colours. Worksheets work, but a 30-second game with sound effects works way better. Here are six free games on PlayPop designed for the youngest learners.

1. Counting Bees

"How many bees are on the flower?" Tap the number. Difficulty scales gently as your kid builds confidence. Great for ages 4-5.

2. Shape Sort

Drag (or tap) shapes into the matching slots. Circles, squares, triangles, stars — the four foundational shapes preschool teachers focus on first.

3. Number Order

Tap numbers 1 → 9 in order, as fast as you can. Builds number recognition and quick scanning.

4. Color Match

Tap the colour the WORD says. Gentle Stroop-style brain trainer that doubles as colour recognition.

5. ABC Order

Tap the letters of the alphabet in order. Pairs nicely with Number Order — same mechanic, different skill.

6. Number Seesaw

"What goes in the blank?" Fill-in-the-blank arithmetic for older preschoolers and early kindergarten.

How to use these well

Two rules:

  1. Sit with them, not next to them. Celebrate every correct answer like it's the first time. Their reward is your face, not the score.
  2. Stop while they want more. 5 minutes is the magic number for kids this age. Quitting on a high makes them want it again tomorrow.
